Dissolution characteristics of norfloxacin and its coprecipitates produced with polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethyleneglycol and acrylic copolymers

Abstract
This investigation was carried out to develop new proparation of antibacterial agent with controlled release properties. An antibacterial agent, norfloxacin, was coprecipitated with polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethyleneglycol, and cationic or anionic acrylic copolymer, and the dissolution rates of them were examined in powder and disk state. The coprecipitates showed different dissolution rates according to dissolution medium. The coprecipitates produced with polyvinylpyrrolidone, and cationic or anionic acrylic copolymer showed decreased dissolution rates compare to free drug in artificial gastric juice, but the coprecipitate with polyethyleneglycol showed decreased or increased dissolution rates depending on the ratio. In artificial intestinal juice, the coprecipitates with polyvinylpyrrolidone showed decreased or increased dissolution rates depending on the ratio, and the coprecipitate with polythyleneglycol showed increasing aspect. However, dissolution rate of the coprecipitates with cationic acrylic copolymer was higher than that of the coprecipitate with anionic acrylic copolymer.
